Genelec’s Cloud services and Reference Levels boost GLM 3 software application

Having revolutionised active monitoring more than a decade ago thanks to their fantastic GLM loudspeaker manager software, Genelec is thrilled to announce their GLM3, a great piece of kit incorporating beta Cloud services and Reference Level listening features.

SAM system users get GLM Cloud access

This is revolutionary stuff. Now Genelec SAM systems users can access GLM Cloud services anywhere, anytime, with secure back-ups and instant access to the latest software updates. And new Reference Level features have been developed in response to global broadcast standards, where strictly calibrated listening SPLs make programs interchangeable across a range of listening conditions.

GLM 3 gives registered users local and beta Cloud options, which means they can switch between the two. The Cloud server provides enough space to store three full system calibrations, each with 10 groups, totalling an impressive 30 acoustic setups. And the Cloud Helpdesk facility lets users submit GLM files to get expert support and advice online.

Since its introduction, the app has helped Mac and PC audio professionals configure and automatically calibrate their Genelec SAM monitor systems, delivering fully optimised performance for acoustic environments.

Users calibrate their own listening levels

The new Reference Level feature lets users calibrate their listening levels with ATSC A/85 and EBU R128 loudness standards, combining in-situ frequency response compensation and system alignment with the listening level calibrated to a loudness reference. And there’s no need for a high quality external monitor controller or any other measuring tools, either.

There’s more. Because a predictable frequency response is key to reference monitoring, GLM 3 also comes with new personalisation features, making it easy for the user to customise their response – and depart from the ideal flat response – without sacrificing that essential predictability.

More exciting improvements

Other improvements include adjustable sensitivity on Genelec monitor ISS power-saving functions, a microphone level checker and an indicator for each audio type, plus dialogue boxes and bug fixes. GLM 3 also provides a simple firmware update for instant enabling of all these cool new features.

As Genelec Managing Director, Siamäk Naghian says, “With GLM and technologies such as SAM, we have helped professionals to work more efficiently and effectively for more than 10 years. Now with the addition of Cloud based services and loudness related Reference Level listening to GLM 3, we are once again redefining the industry’s workflow. Just as the first iteration of GLM software showed the way forward with Smart Active Monitoring, so GLM 3 now lays the path for the future – and we clearly see a wealth of possibilities that will benefit our customers hugely.”

GLM 3 will soon be available to all GLM users as a free download. To find out more, visit the Genelec website
