The fantastic MD-LX from Decimator Design is a brand new, miniature, low-power HDMI/SDI bi-directional converter, effectively a ‘lite’ version of the popular MD-HX controlled via USB or a Mac/Windows app. We’re shipping it right now. So what does it offer?

This is a genuine pocket sized piece of kit, measuring just 60mm x 73.7mm x 23mm, or 2.4” x 2.9” x 0.9” in old money. It comes with a suite of desirable modes including Auto Select, which delivers active input to all outputs or, if both inputs are active, SDI to HDMI and HDMI to SDI. It handles HDMI IN to SDI OUT and SDI IN to HDMI OUT, SDI IN to HDMI and SDI OUT, plus HDMI IN to HDMI and SDI OUT.

The MD-LX supports 3G Level A and B, with effective conversion between the two. The USB provides the power and control as well as firmware upgrades. It’s low power, hence the USB. And it comes with a Power Supply and USB Cable.

So far, so great. But the most exciting thing about the LX is the brilliant bi-directional conversion it offers. This major advantage sets the MD-LX apart from some of its competitors, especially when the user’s set up changes from job to job. In the past you might have had to use a bunch of HDMI to SDI converters as well as SDI to HDMI. Now, armed with just the MD-LX, you can add flexibility and apply a lower cost to many workflows. It’s no surprise we’re expecting to see this excellent item flying off our shelves.
