Neumann U 89 i Studio Condenser Microphone (Nickel)
Dual Diaphragm 5-Directional Universal Studio Condenser Microphone
The U 89 i is similar in appearance to the U 87. It is of smaller size, and lighter weight. It features five instead of three directional characteristics and a higher maximum sound pressure level which make this microphone easier adaptable to different applications.
Neumann’s U 89 i is visually similar to the U 87. It offers five as opposed to three directional characteristics and a higher maximum sound pressure level, making this microphone far more adaptable to different applications, as well as having smaller dimensions and weighing significantly less too.
The U 89 is a studio microphone for universal applications. A dual-diaphragm capsule is guarded by the headgrille, and a rotary switch below can be used to alternate through five different polar patterns. The end result is that the microphone can be adjusted simply to suit any circumstance. Hefty sound sources, those that are spread wide apart, or recorded at a larger distance.
The amplifier receives sound pressure levels up to 134 dB without distortion. This figure can be increased to 140 dB. A further rotary switch engages a filter that changes the low frequency response either below 80 Hz or 160 Hz frequency.
- Variable large diaphragm microphone
- Pressure-gradient transducer with double membrane capsule
- Five directional characteristics: omni, wide angle cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, figure-8
- Thereby most versatile in all recording situations
- Two-stage roll-off filter
- Switchable 10 dB pre-attenuation
- Extended frequency range in comparison to U 87 Ai
