Eastwood Sound and Vision Takes on AEA Ribbon Mics

3.52Kviews

Eastwood Sound and Vision is thrilled to announce that they’ve just taken on another new brand, this time the excellent AEA, creator of some of the most innovative and beautifully designed ribbon microphones on the planet.

AEA’s hugely popular Legacy, R44, R84 and Nuvo series sit at the centre of the decision, used by a host of household-name music industry stars including Steely Dan, Tom Petty, Jack White, Pete Townsend and more, and by legendary music studios including Abbey Road, AIR, Ocean Way Nashville and Skywalker Sound. AEA kit is just as popular with engineers and producers, including luminaries like Bruce Sweden and Neil Dortsman, who collaborate with stars like Quincy Jones, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Sting.

The AEA R44C is a member of the Legacy series, a museum-quality replica with a corrosion resistant bronze investment cast yoke. The R44CX is a high-output, red-badge version of the R44C designed specifically for scoring and anything else demanding a wide dynamic range with that classic 44 sound plus an extra 6dB output. The low cost R44CE features the same ribbon transformer and fabulous sound but the exterior trim is less elaborate. And the awesome R44CXE is the high output version, combining an economical finish with higher output.

The R84A (formally the A840) harnesses the same JFET tech and high performance transformer as their flagship R44 mic, ideal for optimal soft sound sources or classical recording and delivering an extra 12dB of gain.

The Nuvo mic series captures the natural tonality of an instrument with the least possible colouration. The N8 is popular with string players and drummers thanks to its open, natural sound, perfect for distant miking and brilliant for use close to amplifiers, where it captures lots more bass than a regular mic. The N22 mixes condenser-like top end clarity with traditional ribbon smoothness, offering  12dB more output than a passive ribbon. Ideal for live and close-up work, its active electronics means you can use it with most preamps.

The addition of a collection of AEA ribbon mics to Eastwood’s already comprehensive range of top brands will delight customers, including everyone from quality-hungry amateur and professional musicians to respected music production studios.
