A revolutionary small format video production camera that shoots in broadcast ready Apple ProRes 422 as well as lossless CinemaDNG RAW, directly onto SD card. Perfect for the roaming videographer who wants stunning cinematic images in a compact, lightweight form factor.
As the world’s most compact professional cinema camera, the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera crams impressive specifications and truly incredible images into its compact form-factor. By now you’ve read the reviews – the Pocket Cinema Camera can handle anything from independent films, to documentary, to corporate video production and shoots in a variety of broadcast ready codecs such as the virtually lossless Apple ProRes 422 and CinemaDNG RAW, which is unprecedented for camera of this size and price.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features a Super 16mm sized sensor that records full HD 1920 x 1080 a wide 13 stops of dynamic range, a large 3.5 inch LCD screen for access to the menus as well a clear image of your shots, all housed in a lightweight magnesium alloy chassis. It also includes a rechargeable battery, power supply and a wrist strap
The Pocket Cinema Camera uses the active micro four thirds lens mounting option, giving you access to an extensive range of professional photography and cinema lenses. Because it is an active lens mount, you have total electronic control over focus and aperture and also has the benefit of keeping the overall size down. Micro Four Thirds has the largest range of lenses from manufacturers such as Olympus, Panasonic and Leica allowing you to pick the very best glass for the job. The Pocket Cinema can also be adapted to use common Canon EF and Nikon as well as Arri PL and 16mm cinema lenses for huge versatility.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera captures film like detail
Because of the wide dynamic range of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, you are able to capture more detail in the highlights and shadows, much more than the usual 8bit compressed formats that you find on most DSLRs. With the Pocket Cinema you have a 10bit codec in Apple ProRes, and a 12bit codec in CinemaDNG RAW which gives you those truly cinematic images you’ve been after! Having all that extra data means that you’re also able to push things further in post-production to have the most control over your final video production deliverables. With the two dynamic range settings in the camera, you can either shoot for the most amount of dynamic range and maximum control over your post-production workflow with film LOG, or shoot with a more finished look in the REC709 setting.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera records to the affordable SDXC format and is capable of recording both the Apple ProRes and CinemaDNG RAW formats natively, meaning there is no need for any external recorders for broadcast quality video. When it comes to connectivity, the Pocket Cinema includes a micro HDMI output for connecting production monitors as well as a mini-jack microphone input for powered shotgun mics and a standard mini-jack headphone socket for monitoring audio. A LANC control input is also included for remote operation.
With its small and lightweight body, the ability to shoot discretely, incredible on-board technology and its compatibility with a huge amount of third party accessories such as shoulder rigs and cages; the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera has re-defined the standard in portable and affordable cinema cameras.
