The Genelec 8351A is a professional three-way nearfeild studio monitor with some truly innovative features. Breaking away from the conventional design of nearfield monitors, the Genelec 8351A looks quite unique with its single visible centralised driver. They not only look stunning but come armed with some serious technology and are ideal for music studios, production houses, editing suites and even home studios.
The full name for the 8351A is the 8351A Acoustically Smart Active Monitor (SAM) due to the technologies in its design. It features a single 5 ¾” MDC Coaxial Midrange Tweeter set into the center of a large waveguide plate called the MaxDCW Maximised Directivity Control Waveguide. The MaxDCW ensures the sound emitted from the speakers drivers falls over its smooth edges and minimises phasing. The MaxDCW also acts as a cover for the dual drivers hidden behind it, giving it its signature look. However, this is not just aesthetics, it actually contributes to the clarity of the low end via the Genelec ACW Acoustically Concealed Woofers technology.
The Genelec 8351A can also be fine-tuned to sit perfectly within most acoustic spaces using the Genelec AutoCal system that uses a measurement microphone to record the characteristics of the space and then adjust the monitor accordingly.
The Genelec 8351A, a revolution in nearfield design.
There are three amps onboard the Genelec 8351A; a 150Watt low frequency amp that powers the dual concealed woofers, and 120Watt midrange and 90Watt high frequency amps that power the coaxial driver. This gives a total system power of 360Watt which is staggering for a relatively small active monitor.
At the rear of the Genelec 8351A there is a balanced XLR analogue input, two XLR AES/EBU input/output connections and two RJ45 control network connections for networking multiple speakers together. In addition to this, there are a wide range of controls for bass roll-off, bass and treble tilt, desktop attenuation and networking configurations.
The Genelec 8351A packs a lot of amazing technology and signature Genelec quality design into a relatively compact and affordable active studio monitor, great for professionals and amateurs alike.
